Here is a little bit about the artist I want to share, Emily Carr. Emily is one of the most famous Canadian artist of all time and she is actually from Victoria BC, the place where I live right now. Emily was inspired by the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast and a lot of her artwork focused on exploring aspects of Indigenous themes and life. Emily was part of major art movements including Post-Expressionism and Cubism. Emily had a forever lasting impact on the art community in Canada and I want to share a few of her works with you.

This artwork here is the Big Raven by Emily Carr. I actually personally recreated this art work in grade 10 though it did not look nearly as good as the original. Unfortunately, I no longer have that artwork. The Big Raven is a painting that explores First Nation's themes, as evident in the presence of a raven and it talks about how life is like in the traditional villages and how the raven has reclaimed the forest.

The Indian Church is one of Emily Carr’s most important and famous pieces. The church is built by the local Nuu-chah-nulth tribe of the Yuquot community which symbolizes First Nation’s exposure to assimilation of Christianity. The painting is currently in the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.

Autumn in France is yet another stunning work by Emily Carr in 1911. The medium is oil on paperboard and it is a dramatic depiction of a stunning landscape. There is certainly influence from Post-Impressionism as I can personally tell from artists I have studied in an art history class including Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cezanne. The color is very vibrant and makes the painting beautiful in a museum setting. The painting is currently in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
